Extra Long Episode this Week - W51.TV, Episode 6!!

Getting back from mid-term break was especially hard - after a lazy week at the beach, and one crazy zombie-weekend, I dove straight into work with newfound fervour..., and now at the end of the week, am practically burnt out!

This has been one crrrrrrazy school week!

As testament to week gone by that was just jam-packed with activities and work, here is the product of HOURS upon HOURS of filming and editing:

FREEZE!!

A weird phenomenon where a bunch of people suddenly found themselves frozen in place took place this afternoon at CentralWorld, Bangkok.

Did the RainDance last week and this is what happened on Monday this week...

Monday.

It stormed real hard for a few hours in the early afternoon.
Then, after a hard day's work, I walked to the entrance of the school only to find that the soi had been utterly flooded. I mean, knee-deep!
Hailing a taxi was futile - they turned ME down!
But finally, I managed to get a motorbike to take me... and thus commenced the coolest bike-ride ever!
Check it out:

Then, I got back to my apartment chuckling in amusement, only to open the door to find... THIS:

So.... what's a single gal staying by herself to do in times like these??

The Happiest Squirrel in the World

While sitting at a park 2 weeks ago, watched as someone fed a huge slice of watermelon to a squirrel.

I was kinda expecting it to fall off the tree at any minute.

I crack myself up sometimes...

(and that's a good thing!)

So lately I've noticed that along with my inner talk (we ALL have it - just some are more aware than others of what we say to ourselves), I seem to have inner laugh sessions with myself.

No I am NOT crazy.

I just mean that when I find humour in everyday life, and have no one around me to share it with, I laugh about it to myself!
Given, this makes for a weird outcome if you're grinning/snivelling as discreetly as you can to yourself on a BTS... but hey!

Today, I was plugged in to my music as usual on the BTS, and when a remix of Great DJ came on, I started to grin because I liked the changes in the chord progression, arrangement, and the addition of tin drum sounds when The Ting Tings go "the drums the drums the drums the drums...."
Talk about text painting!

Then after alighting, while sidestepping pebbles and other potentially dangerous sidewalk entities, the song "Traffic Light" (also by The Ting Tings) came on, and I couldn't help but grin at how cute the lyrics were.

Then... (and please do NOT read this section if you are easily offended by "toilet-talk")

...
......
..........

.... I walked into the staff toilet earlier, and had to give a pre-flush because there were flies in the toilet bowl.

"Shit flies," I thought to myself.
Then started to laugh at the pun.

Instant Classroom Mood Changer

Today it took me a good 3 hours to feel humanly awake.

A friend suggested that I hold a class arm-wrestling competition, where the class winner wrestles me, to perk the class up a bit.
I was so intruiged, I did it immediately at the end of my previous class.

Immediately, the mood of the class changed - my students were having fun, laughing, and cheering each other on.

That's one thing I've learned - that sometimes if the classroom climate starts getting to a point where it hinders student learning, that just means it's time to slot in a short Mood-Changer!

Ps: The strongest kid in my class is a strapping Indian boy, and unfortunately for him, he got beat by a girl - me. I've been grinning like a fool ever since. Heh.

The Ruler

Recently, I met up with 2 ex-Sec school classmates whom I hadn't seen in 12 years.
YES, 12 years!

We got to talking, and one of them who used to sit behind me in class, told me that he still has a memento from those days!

Just an ordinary ruler.... except for the liquid paper vandalism.
Yes, I got bored pretty easily and sought alternate sources of entertainment.

A little explanation on my lousy attempt at graffiti here....
See, my friend's last name is Kong.
But I used to tease him about how he was too small to be nicknamed King Kong, so I called him Baby Kong instead. Ahahahahaha.....

Well, when I saw him again after 12 years.... let's just say that I think King Kong might actually be more appropriate now!

Ahhh... kids...

I'm quite strict about handing in late work.
If kids don't hand in their work on time, not only do they miss out on playtime during lunch (have to do their work then), they also get their cumulative team points deducted.

This is what some of my kids wrote today
(in a reflection essay on why it is important to do work on time):

The kid that gets shouted at all the time:

"... Late work is not good for me or anyone else.
You will also minus your group
and then they are going to shout at you."

The totally overwhelmed kid:

"... doing work on another day might be bad for us because
we are going behind while we have to do many worksheets and
WB homework TB homework and so many homework
that you ever had in your whole life!"

The business-kid:

"... Imagine you were an engineer and you had to fix something and you waste your own playful time and when you are going to fix it you were two late and then you don't get your salary and then maybe you get fired or no salary for a month you need to
be responsible or else you can lose many things."

Note: I've typed the quotes out word for word, letter for letter...

Absolutely Fantastic!

Oh the Boh-Liao-ness of it All!

One of my favourite things when studying in Polytechnic was listening to morning radio while on the way to school.

There was Joe and the Flying Dutchman, Glenn and Rod... and various other breakfast radio duo combinations.

I'd laugh/smirk/grin to myself in appreciation of inane (boh-liao) jokes, not caring if passers-by thought I was crazy.

Here are some snippets I heard this morning that made me laugh out loud:

**

DJ 1: Apparently 42% of people make new year resolutions.
DJ 2: So few? How come?
DJ 1: Who knows....
Pause.
DJ 1: Anyway, 90% of the 42% have already broken their new year resolutions.

**

"It's a dog's life.
Go pee on a tree."

A Very Hungry Follower

Someone who has been reading my blog regularly is very hungry.

If you scroll down and take a look, after each of my posts, you'll notice that the box for (made me) hungry is often checked (tallied at one) even when my posts has nothing really to do with food.

Who is this hungry person, I wonder....

Gaffawing all the way back home......

I almost laughed myself to death on the BTS on the way home.

Honestly didn't mean to be rude or anything.
It was just SO funny!

There he was sitting directly across from me.
Acting totally normal.
And his girlfriend - totally normal too.
Except for the fact that the guy was lobster red from head to toe!
I mean... even his EYEBALLS were red!

I probably would have managed to control my horrified laughter till I got to a safe distance away from Red Man and his girlfriend... but Ben's (slightly delayed) reaction to the guy was so hilarious, I just burst out laughing, and couldn't stop!

Ohhhh.... what a nice way to end the evening - in a heap of helpless giggles.
Heh.
