Finding My Voice Again.

It's been a while since I've been able to just let it out.

If you've been visiting my blog for some time now, you'll notice that I've put my songs up for all to hear. I used to be quite discreet about who I let know I can sing or that I have songs recorded.

It's been happening slowly.
In waves...


A while ago, a friend and I sat and listened to my songs.
It proved to be a spark for me myself.
As we listened, I walked us through the history of those songs.
How they came to be.
Why they came to be.
And through that journey, I realised that I missed that part of me - the part that was able to express myself in song to others.


It's also been a while since I last wrote a song.
Perhaps a few years.

There was a time that songs would come to me so often - my peak was 6 in a month.



So now I'm soaking myself in music again.
Listening.
Soaking.
Relishing.
Savouring.
Hoping... to write a song again someday.



Today, I got home unthinkably tired.
Grade 3 went on a field trip today.
'Nuff said.

But somewhere in the still of my room.
A song bubbled from my heart.
It traveled up, up, and up...
A feeling I'd been getting quite often these few days.
It's simply - the need to sing. To let that wounded bird of a voice out.

And then suddenly.
There it was.
The song stuck in my head - Somewhere Over The Rainbow.
It didn't just seep out past my lips...
it practically burst out.

Joyously, the sound travelled from my heart
past my lips
tentatively at first
but soon, standing tall and proud
just like it used to years ago.

It filled my room.
My heart sang and sang and sang.


And then I smiled.

For I had truly sung from my heart again.
