Honestly, I'm scared.
So far, most of us, especially the expats and those who do not go near the "affected areas" have viewed the political crisis in Bangkok/Thailand as a minor inconvenience.
Of course that all that changed when the airports were taken.
Now, every morning, I wake up and immediately turn on the TV and check the news online to see what the latest development is.
My concern is growing.
Time is "running out".
The PAD projects this image that is for the royalty... yellow shirts and all.... but what will happen if and very probably when on the eve of the King's Birthday (this Friday), they are still occupying the airports and refusing to give in?
Will the whole of Bangkok literally implode???
This mess is just getting messier!
I really love my job here.
I'd hate to leave... but I'm beginning to wonder how safe a future in Thailand is.
At the moment, I am watching the news in Thai... not understanding a word, but watching groups of red-clad people gathering and speaking.
I know this is the UDD - the pro-government supporters.
OK, so now Bangkok is basically being split into two factions - the yellow and the red?
So far I've read that any violence that occurs only occurs in places where there are protesters or a significant government place. So I've been avoiding any of those areas... and trust me - if I see any people in red or yellow holding signs ANYWHERE, I'm running the other way as fast as I can.
A while back I found myself wondering - who can clean up this mess?
I remember laughing at an article I read that Thaksin is now waiting to be "called" back to Thailand - pardoned and all - he expects that he can bring salvation to Thailand.
How ridiculous!
But it made me resonate with some sort of understanding - is this what the Jews felt like, waiting for the promised Saviour to save them from political unrest?
Now I can see how that must have felt.
If only someone(s) could save Thailand from itself.
