We all ride life's ups and downs.
Some end up riding smoother seas than others.
But whatever our lot in life, whatever we're dealing with or whatever our outlook... we all have to find our source of motivation.
And refind it.
Again and again.
I think that perhaps those who do "better" in life are the ones who pinpoint their motivation for whatever phase they might be in, and simply allow that to drive them and give life new meaning and fulfillment.
Teaching, for example.
It can be an emotionally rewarding job... but trust me, the demands are high and usually the pay is low.
Which is possibly WHY I love teaching so much.
Psychology says that the lower the external motivation, the higher the inner motivation that is needed in order to continue doing something that we wouldn't normally see as beneficial/justifiable/logical.
Hence, if tangible job benefits are not strong enough a motivational factor, and there are plenty of challenges(aka deterrants), teachers need to keep on justifying to themselves WHY it is exactly that they are still doing what they do. And in time, I believe that helps to bring a kind of love for the job (High inner motivation).
At least for those who succeed in justifying and stay on for the ride!
Then again.... personally, I feel that dealing with children, watching them learn and grow and love... that is reward in itself. :)
